Agencies at The Sanctuary

The following agencies provide services to residents in Eastern Knox County.  Agencies administer their individual services.  Sanctuary Community Action provides each agency with access to the facility--The Sanctuary Service Center, 304 Market St, Danville.  For more information or to inquire about your agency providing services, please contact The Sanctuary at 740-599-7224.

  • Knox County Health Department - 2 days per month (740) 392-2200

    • Women Infant and Children (WIC)

      Provides nutrition education and grocery assistance for families with children under age 5, expectant mothers and/or nursing mothers. Proper nutrition is vital for development prior to birth, during the nursing period as well as infants and small children. There is a liberal income requirement.

      • Second Thursday of the month 9am-5:00pm

      • Fourth Thursday of the month 9:30am-12 noon

       

    • Immunization clinic

      All children need to receive the necessary immunizations prior to attending Head Start, Day Care programs and kindergarten as well as the necessary booster immunizations. Appointments are requested. Please call 740-599-7224 to schedule.  There is no fee for immunizations but if possible, families are encouraged, but is not required, to contribute $10 per visit to Knox County Health Dept. 

      • Second Thursday of the month 3pm to 5pm

         

  • Adult Basic Literacy Education--Monday and Tuesday evenings, 6pm to 8pm. Free classes enabling adults who do not have a high school diploma obtain their GED/high school equivalent diploma. For more information or to register, contact Knox County Career Center Adult Education at 393-2933 EXT 1118 or Sanctuary Service Center at 740-599-7224. Classes are held during the school year. Please note: you must be 19 years of age and not enrolled in high school.

  •  Family Medical Clinic at Sanctuary Community Action Service Center---Sanctuary Community Action, 304 Market St, Danville, has partnered with Dr. Elder’s American Health Network's office to provide medical services to residents in Eastern Knox County. –1st and 3rd Wednesdays 9am to 3pm and 2nd and 4th Wednesday mornings from 9am to 12 noonDeb Samples, nurse practitioner, is staffing the office. Appointments are encouraged by calling Dr. Elder’s office—740-694-1261. However, Walk-ins welcome.  Medical services are available for infants, children, teens, adults and senior citizens.  Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid as well as self pay accepted.  Sanctuary Service center is handicap accessible – no steps. Parking is available directly in front of the new facility.

  • Knox County Veterans Service Office providing outreach services the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 10am to 2pm.  A light lunch is available.  All veterans and widows of veterans are encouraged to stop in and inquire about services available to them under the veterans programs.

  • Family Life Counseling Services---Sanctuary Community Action is pleased to announce Family Life Counseling & Psychiatric Services will be serving the community of Eastern Knox County at the Service Center beginning May 1, 2015. Family Life Counseling & Psychiatric Services was founded in Mansfield, Ohio in 1999 by Dr. Steve Burggraf.  This agency is a non-profit mental health and substance abuse counseling agency, and has served the Richland County area, with an emphasis on in-home counseling services primarily to at-risk youth.  This emphasis has continued up to the present and has expanded to treating all ages from children to the elderly, with the addition of many other services to meet identified needs in the community. Family Life is looking to regionalize its services to surrounding communities such as Knox County, bringing its expertise and resources in order to provide a helping hand to its citizens.  It is Family Life’s hope and goal to provide services for unmet or under-served needs within your community.  They provide services for children, adolescents, adults and senior citizens.  They accept Medicaid, Medicare, PASSPORT, insurance, private pay and sliding fee.  For more information or to schedule for the Danville office, please call 1-419-774-9969.

 

 Sanctuary Community Action coordinated programs

  • Lifeline Screening--annual screening for blockages contributing to stroke, heart attack and aneurysms. Also check for osteoporosis.  There is a nominal fee. For more information and date of screening, please call The Sanctuary at 740-599-7224.

     

  • Women's Health Clinics - Routine Pap and Clinical Breast Exams and Mammograms

    • Pap and Clinical Breast Exams in cooperation with KnoHoCo Ashland Women's Health Services.  A nominal fee is charged to cover lab costs for Pap. KnoHoCo accepts medical card (not medicare or insurance)

    • Mobile Mammogram unit from Boardman Ohio--The MammoVan. The mobile unit accepts insurance, medicare, medicaid and self pay. 

    Region 5 Breast and Cervical Cancer Project is available to provide financial assistance for women with no insurance.  Sanctuary Community Action has been awarded a grant from United Way of Knox County to assist those not eligible under Region 5 if financial assistance is needed.  These clinics are open to all women in Knox County.  For more information on dates and to schedule, please contact The Sanctuary at 740-599-7224.
